5 Baby Must Haves for Sun Safety!

Spring is finally here and the warm weather has finally returned after an incredibly loooooong hiatus. While we are all desperate to soak in some much needed vitamin D, do remember to keep both you and baby protected from the sun’s harmful rays as you are out and about.

A baby can get a sunburn in less than 5 minutes! 

Here are the TOP 5 THINGS TO PROTECT BABY from getting a sunburn:

1. Sunscreen.

Look for a broad-spectrum sunscreen that protects against harmful UVA and UVB rays containing zinc oxide or titanium dioxide with a minimum SPF of 15.

* most sunscreens are recommended for babies 6 months+

2. Sun Cover

- With the sun beaming down from all angles, make sure baby is completely protected whether they are in a stroller or a carrier. Many stroller canopies and parasols don’t shield the legs completely and babies often get sunburns on their legs from the scorching sun.

3. Sunglasses

- Look for lenses that block out 99-100% of UV radiation, and make sure they block out both UVA and UVB rays.

4. Sun Hat

- Choose a wide brimmed hat that provides coverage in the front and the back, to prevent sunburns on the back of the neck. Check that the chin strap fits well to prevent the hat from falling off or flying away on windy days.

5. Sun Protective Clothing

- Dress baby in light colors and avoid darks as it absorbs more heat. For the little water explorers, look for a sun suit with a UPF rating of 50+ to keep them fully protected.

Remember that ultraviolet (UV) rays are the most intense between 10am to 4pm, so try to avoid exposure to the sun between these hours.
